Draft Grade: F
Tennessee missed the boat on several occasions, leading to their poor draft grade. Last year's #1 pick Vince Young turned the club around quickly, but he still needs support, specifically at WR where the Titans have no legitimate go-to receiver. With two top 50 picks, the Titans should have landed a talented receiver (they had opportunities to get either Dwayne Jarrett or Steve Smith from USC). With no #1 target, Tennessee opted for Safety Michael Griffin with their first pick. Griffin is a solid player but he was still a stretch at #19 and Safety wasn't even a top need. In round two, the Titans selected Chris Henry, who is basically the same style runner as LenDale White. Henry was another stretch. In round three they finally landed a wideout in Fresno State's Paul Williams, who has the talent to be a contributor but not the superstar receiver Young and the offense needs. Veteran Center Kevin Mawae is aging, so Tennessee's fourth choice of Leroy Harris was a smart pick. Harris can play OG as well, something Tennessee considered because of the loss of Zach Piller. CB Ryan Smith was a solid value round pick for the Titans in round six.
