Draft Grade: D
|
| Hoping to redeem themselves after last year's
fiasco in which they missed out on instant superstars Reggie
Bush and Vince Young, the Texan struggled again. In need
of improved play from the defensive backfield and the offensive
line, Houston spent their day one picks on
a
DT and a WR? That's right. Acquiring Matt Schaub from Atlanta
and dumping former #1 pick David Carr put the Texans in
a pickle to begin with as they only had two day one picks
to work with. Their first round selection of DT Amobi
Okoye wasn't altogether bad as Okoye has the talent
and athleticism to help this defense in so many ways. Still,
with talented players like Mario Williams, Travis Johnson
and Anthony Weaver already anchoring the D line, Okoye's
addition doesn't address a top priority need. And small
schooler Jacoby Jones, taken in round three, wasn't
exactly the best value pick for the Texans though they are
in desperate need of more playmaking WRs to compliment Andre
Johnson. Still, better value than Jones was available. The
Texans redeemed themselves on day two, starting with the
acquisition of CB Fred Bennett, a tall, speedy corner
who could compliment fellow South Carolina grad Dunta Robinson
very well in the Texan secondary. Local product Kasey
Studdard was a smart sixth round choice. The OG has
very good experience. |
