Draft Grade: B-
|
| Seattle sure didn't have much to work, lacking
a first round pick because of the Deon Branch deal. Still,
Holmgren and the Seahawks made the most of what they had
to work with. Their first selection came midway through
round two where they drafted talented CB Josh Wilson
out of Maryland. Wilson has good skills and should compete
with former Seattle first rounders Marcus Trufant and Kelly
Jennings. In round three, Seattle landed a steal in athletic
DT Brandon Mebane. On day two, Seattle stole more
talent, landing another versatile D lineman, Baraka Atkins
with the 120th pick and Courtney Taylor with the
197th pick. Atkins is vastly underrated and only needs some
good coaching to play to his potential. Taylor isn't a blazer,
but he has reliable hands and good route running skills.
While Seattle found talent, they did ignore a few critical
needs, specifically at RB, where they would have been wise
to find a competent backup for Alexander, and at OG, where
they should have found a mauler to replace Steve Hutchinson.
Mansfield Wrotto was the only O lineman they selected
and he's not a pure OG considering he spent the majority
of his Georgia Tech career on the defensive side of the
ball. |
