Draft Grade: B
|
| Detroit takes arguably the top prospect in
this entire class, WR Calvin Johnson from Georgia
Tech. That's the fourth time in the past five years that
Detroit drafted a WR in round one. Johnson, an All-World
talent, was coveted by almost every team in this Draft,
but the Lions were the fortunate ones and now they'll have
Johnson teaming with Roy Williams to give Detroit the NFL's
best young WR tandem. The only concern now is, can Jon Kitna
get him the ball? If not, maybe Kitna can mentor second
round pick QB Drew Stanton the same way he did Carson
Palmer in Cincinnati. Stanton is no Carson Palmer, but he's
a talented and athletic QB who grew up in suburban Detroit
and performed well at nearby Michigan State despite poor
play from his supporting cast as a Senior in 2006. After
one season, Stanton should be starting for this offense,
and with Williams and Johnson to throw to, he'll have no
excuse for poor performance. On day two, Detroit's only
significant addition was that of mauling OG Manuel Ramirez,
taken in round four. |
