Draft Grade: C+
|
| The G-Men welcome another solid draft class,
but can Coughlin get anything out of this group? We shall
see. First round pick Aaron Ross is a blazing CB
who should compliment Corey Webster and Sam Madison very
nicely. Ross has decent size to go along with that speed,
but he does need some polish as a pure coverman. He was
burned by the more elite college receivers he faced, especially
when he tried and failed against OSU's Ted Ginn (now a member
of the Dolphins). WR Steve Smith was a steal at #51.
Smith is tough, fast and sure-handed. He should become a
very special #2 receiver for the G-Men and take over for
Amani Toomer after a season in development. New York closed
out day one with the drafting of a smart, instinctual DT,
Jay Alford, who could be a major contributor in New
York's DT rotation. Day two of the G-Men draft left a lot
to be desired, though OT Adam Koets has the potential
to become a solid player for the frontline. |
