Draft Grade: F
Philly confused everyone early on by swinging a deal with division-rival Dallas to trade out of the first round. The deal gave them four day one picks and they made the most of them, with the exception of QB Kevin Kolb. While Kolb has a ton of upside, Donovan McNabb is still in charge of this offense, and will be for years to come. After acquiring competent backup Kelly Holcomb in a trade, the decision to draft another backup with their first pick had most Eagle fans scratch their, screaming obscenities and leaping from high-rise buildings. You have to suspect head coach Andy Reid might be playing psychological tricks on McNabb, bringing in a competent vet like Holcomb and drafting another QB just to make sure McNabb stays on top of his game. After the odd selection of Kolb, Philly redeemed themselves by drafting a skilled edge-rusher in Victor Abiamiri, who will provide quality depth up front. Philly's smartest choice came in round three when they stole Penn State RB Tony Hunt with the 90th pick overall. Hunt is a talented runner who should be a great compliment to the overworked Brian Westbrook in Philly's backfield. For the most part, Philly's draft was all downhill after the Hunt selection, though they're hoping Clemson's C.J. Gaddis, a Corner and Safety in college, will provide dividends as a Safety. They'll need him considering the offseason loss of starter Michael Lewis and the age of Brian Dawkins (a fellow alum of Clemson). Overall, Philly's only significant team addition through the Draft was RB Tony Hunt.
