Draft Grade: B
Arizona made the first real reach in the 2007 Draft by selecting OT Levi Brown with the 5th pick overall. Without question, addressing the O line was a top priority for the Cardinals, who struggled protecting Leinart and opening up run lanes for Edge in 2006. But Brown was definitely not the 5th best player in this class. At least no team other than Arizona thought so. The Cards could've traded down to land Brown, but nevertheless, he should be a rock for the line. With the first pick in round two, the Cardinals stole massive DT Alan Branch, a phenomenal run-stuffer who had first talent. He'll make a strong compliment to Dockett in the middle of Arizona D front. A superb selection. The Cards followed that pick up by selecting another rock in MLB Buster Davis, who can be thought of as a miniature-sized Alan Branch. Davis is small for a NFL-style MLB, but he packs quite a punch and should be a solid contributor to a Cardinal defense looking to become tougher. Return specialist Steve Breaston was a solid value round pick in the fifth, as was TE Ben Patrick in the seventh and final frame. Patrick will team with '06 draftee Leonard Pope to give the Cards two solid TE options.
