Draft Grade: C
Clearly things haven't been working for Buffalo since the Jim Kelly/Thurman Thomas era. Head Coach Dick Jauron and GM Marv Levy understood it was time to retool. During the offseason, long before the 2007 Draft, the Bills decided to make some major changes, ridding themselves of All-Pros and defensive leaders London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes, as well as former first round pick and the leader of the ground game, Willis McGahee. Indeed, Buffalo is looking to start almost from scratch. They had two first round picks in 2006 and in 2007, they spent their first round choice on RB Marshawn Lynch who will be charged with taking over for McGahee. Considering the inconsistent play of QB J.P. Losman, Lynch will have a lot of work to do so he must stay healthy. Lynch brings with him some medical concerns as does another '07 drafted RB, Dwayne Wright. Both Lynch and Wright are talented when healthy, but they must remain 100% and contribute instantly if the Bills hope to have any success offensively. LB Paul Posluszny can play either MLB or OLB, and he too will be counted on for instant contributions in the wake of the Fletcher and Spikes departures. In round three, Buffalo drafted another prospect who brings with him some talent and some major medical issues. QB Trent Edwards was a solid choice considering the shaky play of Losman and the fact that he has no backup, but Edwards will be a non-factor in Buffalo, just as he was at Stanford, if he can't stay on the field for a full season at a time.
