Draft Grade: B-
|
| Chicago was one of the luckiest teams in the
2007 Draft. Despite owning the second to last pick in the
first round, the Bears landed a budding superstar in TE
Greg Olsen, who slid to the waiting arms of Chicago
at #31. If there's such a thing as a first round steal,
this was it. The Bears get a phenomenally athletic receiver
who will waste no time becoming a top redzone target for
Grossman. DE Dan Bazuin was a reach at #62 and the
Bears would've been smarter had they opted for a LB here
considering that Lance Briggs is unhappy with his contract
and Hunter Hillenmeyer should be a backup. Chicago went
for a LB in round three with Stanford's Michael Okwo,
a talented player but another average prospect. The most
intriguing selection was that of miniature RB Garrett
Wolfe, drafted at #93 out of Northern Illinois, where
he set numerous rushing records. Billed as the second coming
of Warrick Dunn because of his size, speed and heart, Wolfe
should make a shifty compliment to bruiser Cedric Benson,
now the team's starting rusher. Chicago's second day of
drafting was decent. OG Josh Beekman is a special
talent who should contend for a starting job in no time.
